Pubs in Glasgow provide a centre for the social and cultural life of the local community much as they do in other cities in Britain. There are differences though and each is full of character and characters of its own.

Food is much more widely available than it used to be, particularly at lunchtimes, and pubs are a good source of quick and usually cheap meals. The list below indicates which pubs supply a more varied and generally better selection.

Most pubs sell a variety of beers, the traditional Scottish style is called 'heavy' and is somewhat sweeter and less hoppy than an English bitter for instance. By tradition beers have been named after the old price of a barrel in shillings, hense 60, 70, 80 or even 90 shillings, the latter being the strongest

Used by gfgc returning from trips abroad.
 
The Rubaiyat  on Byres Road  within touching distance of Glasgow University and Glasgow Western Infirmary. in .  strong regular crowd is joined by local workers, students and even shoppers in the area. The pub is also popular with sports fans. There is a back area used mainly by those dining. The menu is made up of traditional dishes, with the Steak & Ale Pie coming with a personal recommendation.
